Austria’s airport network divides naturally between Vienna and the Alpine gateways. Vienna Airport handles the largest international schedule, while Salzburg, Innsbruck, Graz, Linz and Klagenfurt can shorten transfers to specific provinces. The best arrival airport depends on the final valley, resort or city—not simply the lowest airfare.
Use Vienna for the capital and eastern Austria; Salzburg for the Salzkammergut and northern ski areas; Innsbruck for Tyrol; and Graz or Klagenfurt for southern routes. Munich, Zurich and Bratislava can also be practical cross-border gateways when flight schedules are stronger.
